The product didn’t exist—yet! We saw an opportunity to create an interactive, high-impact product that combined celebration, indulgence, and hands-on fun. The goal was to develop a brand-new retail-ready chocolate piñata mold, complete with packaging, branding, and a full compatible program.

MY ROLE

I was the graphic designer that led product development, branding, and packaging design, ensuring that every aspect—from the chocolate molds to the customer experience—felt cohesive, exciting, and ready for shelves.

 

THE PROCESS

  • Prototyping: We experimented with mold materials, shapes, and techniques to create the perfect smashable piñata.

  • Planogram: We researched compatible products to fit with the chocolate molds, and discovered useful tools like chocolate pens, and repositioned a pottery tool for chocolate sculpting.

  • Branding & Packaging: The brand needed a bold, celebratory feel that captured the excitement of cracking open a chocolate piñata. We designed packaging that showcased the interactive nature of the product while standing out on retail shelves. Packaging also required innovation to be able to nest and maximize peg space.

 

THE OUTCOME

The Chocolate Piñata launched as a first-of-its-kind product in major craft and party retailers, earning unique product placement outside traditional candy sections. The brand’s playful identity and interactive appeal helped it carve out a new category, creating a memorable experience for customers.
